We are in uncertain times. Many families are living in fear that they may be tore apart based on their immigration status, religion, race, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity or socio-economic status. This stress can add to or exacerbate the stress that many women experience in the perinatal period. As providers, community members and friends to those most targeted by government action we must be aware of these vulnerabilities and stressors and, whenever possible, offer support and assistance. Below is a list of resources and suggestions that we have compiled that may assist you in finding help for yourself or others.

Know Your Rights Resources

Everyone who lives in the United States has rights under the U.S. Constitution, regardless of status. Below are links to summaries of rights provided by a variety of legal and social justice organizations.

Where To Go For Help

Many organizations, both local and national, are stepping up to help immigrants and their families for no or low cost. Below is a list of local groups or search engines you can use to find help near you.

LGBTQ Resources

Many in the LGBTQ community are feeling targeted now by both the government and their immediate communities. Below are some resources and hotlines you can use to find help.

Techniques for Reducing Stress

  • Talk to your baby, in and out of the womb. Say "I love you and will keep you safe."
  • Practice stress relieving activities that work for you - be with friends, exercise, take part in pleasurable activities.
  • Practice calming exercises such as mindfulness or deep breathing.
  • Rests when your baby rests.
  • Don't abandone self-care, however overwhelmed you may feel.
