SUMMARY:2022 Conference
DESCRIPTION:Just as no two people experience perinatal depression and anxiety the same way\, neither is there a one size fits all approach to their care. Whole person care takes into consideration cultural influences\, diverse belief systems\, mind/body integration and alternatives to or that complement conventional Western medicine. Current movements within healthcare toward inclusive and culturally responsive interventions inspire and inform this conference. Our keynote presentations and interactive workshops will offer multi-disciplinary approaches to perinatal mental health care. \nConference participants will join a collaborative discussion with a wide range of healers to re-imagine the future of holistic care for individuals on their reproductive journeys. Attendees will hear from leading change-agents who will share advancements in research and innovative approaches to the mental\, emotional\, and physical healing of those entering parenthood. The conference will take place June 2-3\, 2022\, from 8a-4:30p and will be hosted in-person at the Courtyard by Marriott Los Angeles Westside and will live stream online. \nThank you to our sponsors California Health Care Foundation\, Health Net\, L.A. SUMMARY:Use of Alternative Treatments for Perinatal Mood Disorders and Treatment-Resistant Depression: A Focus on rTMS and Ketamine
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER TODAYPerinatal mood disorders\, which at times include treatment-resistant forms of depression\, remain a major public health burden and a primary target for improvement within care models. In some cases\, people with perinatal mood disorders may not respond to treatment recommendations including psychopharmacology and evidence-based therapeutic modalities. Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) and Ketamine are FDA cleared and approved alternative treatment modalities for some of these patients who qualify under specific criteria. The availability of these alternative treatments creates opportunities for those who do not respond to first-line treatment recommendations to explore a wider range of options to feel better. Learn more about what these treatment options entail and how patients might access them with psychiatrist Dr. Merrill Sparago. \nCEUs will be offered for this webinar. The webinar will be recorded and can be accessed for 1 week following the live-broadcast. If you are unable to attend live\, please still register and the link to the recording will be e-mailed to you following the webinar. \nOBJECTIVES: \nAfter completing this webinar participants will be able to…\n– Identify 3 features of perinatal mood disorders in conjunction with treatment-resistant depression.\n– Explain the proposed mechanisms of action of both rTMS and Ketamine.\n– Review the indications and evidence for use of rTMS and Ketamine. \nCONTINUING EDUCATION: \nCommunity Partners FBO Maternal Mental Health NOW is the sponsor of continuing education for this learning module and is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Community Partners FBO Maternal Mental Health NOW as the sponsor maintains responsibility for this program and its content. \nSPEAKER: \nMerrill Sparago\, MD (he/him) \nDr. Sparago received his undergraduate degree in psychology from Hunter College\, studied medicine at the University of Maryland in Baltimore\, and went on to complete his residency training in psychiatry at UCLA. Dr. Sparago received training in perinatal psychiatry at the UCLA Women’s Life Center\, completed a research fellowship in perinatal mental health\, and served as a volunteer clinical instructor at the UCLA Women’s Life Center. Additionally\, Dr. Sparago has been a member of Postpartum Support International (PSI) where he has served on the executive board as research chair\, co-developed the clinical material for the 2009 PSI/Maternal Mental Health NOW (formerly\, Los Angeles County Perinatal Mental Health Taskforce)\, and co-organized the PSI annual conference in Los Angeles. Dr. Sparago maintains a private practice in perinatal mental health and the integration of novel therapeutics including the use of TMS and Ketamine for treating refractory depression. \nREGISTER TODAY

SUMMARY:Pelvic Health Physical Therapy: Wholistic Care During The Perinatal Period
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER TODAYThis webinar will help participants learn the relevance and importance of physical therapy in the perinatal period as a complementary method of care. SUMMARY:Courageous Conversations: Pregnant with the Stars
DESCRIPTION:Courageous Conversations: Pregnant with the StarsOverview\nJoin author Renee Cramer\, author of “Pregnant with the Stars” and “Birthing a Movement” for a discussion on the impact of Hollywood and celebrity pregnancies in the media on society and pregnant people. We are exploring topics such as the pressure to keep up with the stars (think gender reveals\, expertly designed nurseries\, looking beautiful during pregnancy\, ect)\, “bouncing back” and the expectation to do so\, and other ways we might be subconsciously (or consciously) influenced by the way Hollywood stars are put up as the “standard”. \nShe will be joined by the dynamic husband and wife team behind the Mid-drift Movement\, Angie and Mike Sonrode who will be sharing about their project aimed at changing the conversation about postpartum body image. \nWe will also be hosting two of our dynamic storytellers\, Kimberly Osuna and Karyn Chen who are both survivors of postpartum depression and perinatal mental health disorders. They will share from their personal experience. \nAbout the AuthorRenée Ann Cramer is Associate Professor and Chair of Law\, Politics and Society at Drake University. \nThis book charts how the American understanding of pregnancy has evolved by examining pop culture coverage of the pregnant celebrity body.

SUMMARY:Legal and Ethical Dilemmas in Perinatal Mental Health
DESCRIPTION:The field of perinatal mental health may present clinicians with unique legal and ethical dilemmas with an abundance of grey areas to traverse. Concerns about parent\, infant and child safety are keenly present for providers supporting families on their reproductive journey. Additionally\, ethical dilemmas may arise as clinicians navigate providing equitable care with cultural humility while meeting legal and ethical standards of licensure governing boards. \nThis 3-part\, 3-day continuing education workshop series pairs legal and clinical voices in conversation to help us problem solve these complex and ever-evolving challenges. Topics include: promoting safe boundaries\, child abuse and neglect reporting\, managing high risk cases and practice risk management\, and implicit bias. \nPlease join us for what is sure to be an informative\, interactive and practice transforming series! Register for individual workshops for $40 each or all three workshops at the discounted rate of $100. \n\nThis course meets criteria for 2 CE credits each\, or 6 CE credits total for LMFTs\, LPCCs\, LCSWs\, LEPs\, and psychologists through the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) in the state of CA.
