SB 10 - Mental health services: peer, parent, transition-age, and family support specialist certification

Summary: Orders DHCS to establish a peer support specialist certification program as part of the state’s comprehensive mental health and SUD delivery system and Medi-Cal

Status: Hearing scheduled for March 27th in the Senate Health Committee.

 

SB 464 - California Dignity in Pregnancy and Childbirth Act

Authors: Senator Holly Mitchell (D - Los Angeles) and Assembly Member Shirley Weber (D - San Diego)

Sponsors: ACT for Women and Girls, Black Women for Wellness, NARAL Pro Choice California, and Western Center on Law and Poverty

Summary: Requires hospitals and birth centers to train their providers in implicit bias.  Also improves how the state of California tracks maternal mortality and morbidity by mandating the collection of information about patients' race/ethnicity and underlying causes, and adopting the use of the U.S. standard death certificate.
