As we head into the 2019 legislative session in California, there are several important bills that we are watching and working on that will bring needed support to new families throughout the state. Below you can find out more about the bills we are co-sponsoring and supporting.

AB 845 - Continuing Education: Physicians, Surgeons & Nurses: Maternal Mental Health

Author: Brian Maienschein (R), Assembly District 77 (San Diego)

Requires the Medical Board of CA and Board of Registered Nursing to offer an elective continuing education course on perinatal mood disorders

Hearing scheduled for March 26th in the Assembly Business & Professions Committee.

 

AB 1676 - Health Care: Mental Health

Requires health plans and insurers to establish telepsychiatric consultation lines for providers who work with pregnant and postpartum parents and children

AB 577 - Medi-Cal: Maternal Mental Health

Extends pregnancy-related Medi-Cal coverage for perinatal mood disorders for up to one year postpartum

AB 512 - Medi-Cal: Speciality mental health services

Author: Ting

Requires Medi-Cal managed mental health plans to develop cultural competency assessment plan for review by DHCS and consultation from Office of Health Equity

SB 10 - Mental health services: peer, parent, transition-age, and family support specialist certification

Authors: Beall, Waldron, Nielsen, Carrillo

Orders DHCS to establish a peer support specialist certification program as part of the state’s comprehensive mental health and SUD delivery system and Medi-Cal

SB 464 - California Dignity in Pregnancy and Childbirth Act

Require birthing hospitals and birthing centers implement an implicit bias program that includes staff training and tracking maternal death and severe morbidity.

 

SB 66 - Medical - FQHC and rural health clinic services

Authors: Atkins & McGuire

Sponsor: Steinberg Institute

Allows for reimbursement of up to 2 visits received at FQHCs on the same day

Hearing scheduled on March 20th in the Senate Health Committee
